The
truth is, when you
consider all these facts it's become clear that Takehiko Ito got his
wish in
one way or another. Like Sword of Wind, not everyone's a big fan of
Angel Links. Thinking back to that coincidence
though, did you know that Takehiko Ito has been credited as "the
primary creative mind behind Angel Links"? One might deduce
that his Sword of Wind project wasn't actually cancelled in 2002.
Actually, in the same year (1998) he started work on it it's a strong
possibility that shortly after then he was asked to work on Angel Links
instead (which broadcast in Q2 1999) which is why he released media of
Sword of Wind onto the internet a few years later and said its
cancellation was mostly Sunrise's decision who—like with Outlaw
Star—was the studio behind Angel Links.
Despite how the previous explanations seem to
make a lot of sense, in the end they're still only theories unless
confirmed by Takehiko Ito himself. It does seem as if Fred Luo's
appearance in the same place as the Links group in Angel Links is more
than just a Fred cameo though. It's like it's paying homage to the
sequel that was never meant to be. Will there ever be an Outlaw Star
sequel? Anything's possible.
What's with Jim's new look, anyway? He looks more like the kid from
Deadman Wonderland than Jim Hawking. In any case, hopefully you learned
a thing or two from this article. Maybe we won't see Outlaw Star 2, but
it seems Takehiko Ito did with Angel Links. It's not the best spin-off
for sure, but it is a part of the Toward Stars universe. Would a sequel
actually work? Gene heading off to Oracion sounds like a
pretty good place to start. Not to mention, the possibility of a sequel
was
actually hinted right at the end of Outlaw Star. Maybe a prequel would
work better, perhaps about Hot Ice Hilda. Or maybe that was already in
the works...
