Using
the information we've uncovered we can make a few assumptions. With
Outlaw Star being optimistic Outlaw Star, after seeing the news report
about Fred's ship's explosion and going to investigate the matter Gene
was probably going to find that Fred survived the explosion. Though
many of us thought that Starwind & Hawking's closure was a very
bad idea we can see that Jim had matured a lot and therefore was
probably a more capable person physically. Plus, he was probably very
close to the engineer's daughter, Diva, so he must have met Gene some
of the time. (What kind of name is Diva, anyway?) As we know Gene
travelled to the Oracion system at the end of Outlaw Star and as that's
where Fred's spacecraft exploded we can only assume Gene had lived
there for quite a while. Dr. Sputnik is actually from the Pyotr Empire.
Above is a map of the Toward Stars universe, focusing on humanity's
"sphere of influence". A little south-west to the centre is the Pyotr
Empire. Unlike the Tempa Empire for instance which is Chinese the Pyotr
Empire has Russian origins. Dr. Sputnik and his daughter escaped Pyotr as
exiles and made it to Oracion which is towards the west of the map. As
you can see, they're both very far from Sentinel III where Outlaw Star
began. One would also assume that Fred Luo didn't (if he had at all)
travel to Oracion often, so let's consider the following from the Sword
of Wind document's translation:
"Fred Luo
exits sub-ether in his transport ship and arrives at the Oracion Star
System. Soon after reaching his destination, Fred expresses his
disappointment; 'These Oracion System people from the Links group just
say I am poor, and insist I’m only offering bribes for men.' His two bodyguards awkwardly nod.”
Take a look at the following screenshot from
the first Angel Links episode:
Coincidence? Well, that's possible. It's also possible that a link
(bad pun) between Angel Links and Sword of Wind was originally
intended. Think about it. Fred probably didn't visit Oracion often if
at all. He went there, met the Links group, and in Sword of Wind his
ship exploded, whereas that didn't make it into Angel Links as of
course for the most part Angel Links was its own story. At the very
least this is plausible.
